Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights
It’s one of the most wonderful times of the year in Niagara Falls starting on November 9th and running until February 28th, 2014.
The Ontario Power Generation Winter Festival of Lights is certainly an exciting annual event that many of us look forward to every year. The city literally lights up. There is so much energy and excitement in the city and so much preparation that goes on to make sure that every one of those 3 Million lights twinkles and every one of the 125 animated displays works just perfectly.
And while this year we say good-bye to Mickey and Minnie, we welcome so many new experiences to the Festival. You can’t miss the opening ceremonies on Saturday, November 9th. This year we are celebrating the year of Korea in Canada starting at 2pm. Here is the list of exciting activities:
- traditional Korean dance performances by the Orient Dance Co.
- drum performances by SamulNori Canada
- fantastic musical performances by YTV’s The Next Star Season 5 winner, Brooklyn Roebuck, the Niagara Institute of Music & Arts and Funky Mama’s and the Niagara Star Singers
At 6pm the Opening Festivities concludes with the traditional ‘flip the switch’ lighting ceremony with plenty of on-stage performances including a 30-minute concert by Brooklyn Roebuck and her band. This is followed by the spectacular fireworks display choreographed to the live performance by The Niagara Symphony Orchestra that you won’t want to miss!
There will also be live entertainment throughout the afternoon on the Coca-Cola stage just a short walk from Queen Victoria Park. Click here for the schedule of performances on the Coca-Cola stage!
New to the festival this year are beautifully-ornate, hand-painted lantern displays and stunning Tunnel of Wish Lanterns from the award-winning Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival of South Korea.
The fun continues until February 28th. Don’t miss these other exciting events happening throughout the Winter season:
- Mistletoe Magic - November 15th - December 22nd
